GREAT BASIN COLLEGE
4-Year Community College.
Rebuild a rural education institution to better serve students, community and industry.
Great Basin College has over 50 years experience serving rural Nevada higher education opportunities, fostering community and building careers that become the lifeblood of this small town. I joined the college during a time of great change, with the welcoming of a new college President, and continued to drive that wave of change by implementing widespread and hugely impactful updates to brand, communications and strategy. The college faced the challenge of extreme lack of consistency across all areas of brand and communications due to a lack of governance of these areas. It wasn’t uncommon to find 10+ year old brand materials floating around in circulation.
COMPANY: Great Basin College, 4-year community college serving rural Nevada students.
INDUSTRY: Higher Education.
STRUCTURE: B2C & B2B.
PRODUCT LIFECYCLE: Maturity.
GOAL: Refresh brand identity and build awareness, establish and implement strategy for all communications areas, drive enrollment and contract (B2B) training.
After reviewing existing college materials and assessing the limited resources available to allocate to the project ahead, the strategic decision was made to keep the primary logo and a few major elements of the brand that had potential, and package them up into a new refreshed brand identity for the college. The rollout of the brand refresh included updating many key materials for the college, creating new templates for staff and staff brand training across the four campuses state-wide. The long process to update and remove all instances of old branding was initiated.
This undertaking was the first step in shifting and rebuilding the brand perception of the college, the goal being the elevate the brand image to that of other 4-year colleges within the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE).
Adjacent to brand identity updates, I began work on a new website for the college. This large undertaking was on an accelerated timeline and with limited staff resources but strategic decisions were made to help meet a timeline of going live before the next school year began in Fall. The website is planned to go live in Summer 2025.
